Time Machine

One day going through my routine web surfing to find out new things that are happening around the web sphere. I stumbled upon something old and antique, thanks to way back machine which caches the websites home pages in its archives(i am not sure if its just the home pages or if they do also cache internal pages).

They have been in existence since 1996 and have crawled about 85 billion web pages, this is what the info on their home page tells. You just need to go to this URl http://www.archive.org/web/web.php type the website URL you want to see the past of and click on the button which very interestingly reads "Take me back"

The site i saw in making was that of Yahoo, must tell, it did remind me of the old web and how far we have moved ahead since then...might be a point in time when the web we are using these days look this retro as the yahoo pages did to me.... With web 3.0 knocking at our doors its not to far that the way we use the medium changes all together and takes us to an different altitude.

YAHOO!!! Through the Time Machine...

PDF Search Engine

A Google powered search engine which finds for you the PDF documents flowing around the net, the search results are generated automatically from Google.

Enter in the title in the search box for the E-Book you are looking for and it goes to find around the web displaying links to pdf files it comes across that matches your search term.

The one thing i din't like about it though is the use of Google Adsense and one pop-up that opens up when you click on their logo, but then that's there source of generating revenues.

Thumbs up for the idea! of using a Google functionality so effectively.

Google Trends for Websites

Google Trends for Websites, can get the traffic and geographic patterns for your favorite websites. You can take out and compare data for up to five websites and view related websites and top searches for each one.

Data is ranked by the first website you've entered into the search box. This means that the list of regions where visitors came from, other sites they visited, and search terms those visitors have in common, are all ranked according to your first website's data.

I compared two of the popular Indian portals Indiatimes.com and rediff.com using Google Trends, below is the graph and the data that trends put forward.

Google Trends
In near future Google trends will be integrated with Google Analytics.

The Google trends data can be viewed using this URL : http://trends.google.com/websites?

Paste error in dreamweaver 8

At time dreamweaver throws up this error " while executing DWShortcuts_HTMLSource_Paste command in menus.xml, the following JavaScript error(s) occurred: TypeError: MM.event has no properties" which does not allow you to copy or paste text in the application.

Heres the solution :

Go to this path C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration\ (these folders are normally hidden - you may have to use Explorer > Tools > Folder Options to unhide them)

Make sure dreamweaver is not running.. rename the configuration folder and restart dreamweaver and your are done..

Screen shots of entire web page. Fireshot

The software is a firefox extensions and gives you the option to take screenshots of entire length of the web page. it is very easy to use, the images can be saved to clipbord or saved directly...
